Reliable Overload and Short-Circuit Protection for Distribution Boards
The Potric 2-Pole Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) automatically disconnects a circuit when it detects an overload or a short circuit. This protects cables from overheating and reduces the risk of electrical fires. It switches both phase and neutral together, giving safer isolation when you work on a circuit.
With a 6kA breaking capacity and a C-curve trip characteristic, it handles the normal start-up currents of lighting, sockets, and small motors without nuisance tripping. It meets IEC 60898-1, the standard for household and similar installations.
Key Features
- Overload and short-circuit protection: thermal and magnetic tripping in one device.
- 2-pole design: switches phase and neutral together.
- C-curve tripping: trips at 5 to 10 times the rated current on a short circuit, suited to general-purpose loads.
- 6kA breaking capacity: suitable for typical residential and light-commercial installations.
- Nine ratings: 6A, 10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, 32A, 40A, 50A and 63A.
- Clear ON/OFF indication: easy status check at a glance.
- Finger-safe terminals: IP20 protection against accidental contact.
- Easy installation: snaps onto a standard 35mm DIN rail and takes only two modules.
Choosing the Right Rating
- 6A and 10A: lighting circuits.
- 16A and 20A: general socket outlet circuits and small appliances.
- 25A and 32A: air conditioners, water heaters, and ring or radial socket circuits.
- 40A, 50A and 63A: cookers, large water heaters, sub-distribution, and main incomers.
Always match the breaker rating to the cable cross-section and the load, as specified by a qualified electrician. The breaker must never be rated higher than the cable can carry.
Typical Applications
- Residential distribution boards and consumer units
- Offices, shops, and commercial buildings
- Lighting and socket outlet circuits
- Air conditioners, water heaters, and small machinery
Important Note
An MCB protects against overload and short circuit. It does not protect people against electric shock from earth leakage. For that, use it together with an RCD, or choose a Potric RCBO, which combines both functions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does C-curve mean?
A C-curve breaker trips instantly at 5 to 10 times its rated current. This suits loads with moderate start-up currents, such as lighting, sockets, and small motors.
What does 6kA mean?
It is the maximum short-circuit current the breaker can safely interrupt. 6kA is a common rating for homes and small commercial buildings.
What is the difference between an MCB and an RCBO?
An MCB protects against overload and short circuit only. An RCBO does that and also detects earth leakage, protecting against electric shock.
Can I use a 2-pole MCB on a three-phase system?
This is a 2-pole breaker for single-phase circuits. See our 3P and 4P breakers for three-phase systems.
Does it fit a standard DIN rail?
Yes. It snaps onto a standard 35mm DIN rail.
Do I need an electrician to install it?
Yes. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in line with local regulations.
