Silent, Fast and Long-Life Switching for DC Loads up to 40A
The Potric JGX DC/DC Solid State Relay (SSR) uses a semiconductor output instead of mechanical contacts. A small DC signal from a controller, PLC, or temperature regulator switches a larger DC load, with no clicking, no contact arcing, and no contact wear.
Because it has no moving parts, it suits applications with frequent switching and installations where noise, vibration, or contact bounce is a problem. It is available in 25A and 40A ratings.
Key Features
- DC control, DC load: a low-voltage DC input switches a DC output.
- Wide control range: accepts a 3-32V DC control signal, compatible with most controllers and PLC outputs.
- No moving contacts: silent operation, no arcing, and long service life.
- Fast switching: suited to frequent on/off cycling and control loops.
- Electrical isolation: the control side is isolated from the load side.
- Two ratings: 25A and 40A to match the load.
- Panel mounting: fixes to a metal plate or heat sink.
Choosing the Right Rating
- 25A: small heaters, DC solenoids, valves, and lighting.
- 40A: medium heating elements, DC motors, and larger DC loads.
Choose a rating with a safety margin above the load current, typically at least 1.5 to 2 times for resistive loads, and more for inductive loads such as motors and solenoids. Always have the selection checked by a qualified electrician or engineer.
Typical Applications
- Temperature control and heating systems
- PLC and controller output switching
- DC motors, solenoids, and valves
- Battery, solar, and DC power systems
- Industrial automation and machinery
Installation Note
Solid state relays produce heat when carrying current. Mount the relay on a suitable heat sink with thermal paste, and leave space for air flow. Observe the polarity marked on the input and output terminals. Without enough cooling, the relay can overheat and fail.
Important Note
This relay switches DC loads only. Do not use it to switch an AC load. A solid state relay does not protect against short circuit or overload, so always install it with a suitable fuse or circuit breaker. It does not give a visible air gap, so use a separate isolating switch when work is carried out on the circuit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "DC/DC" mean?
The control signal is DC and the load it switches is also DC.
Can I use it to switch an AC load?
No. For AC loads, use an AC-output solid state relay.
Do I need a heat sink?
Yes, especially near the rated current. A heat sink keeps the relay within safe temperature limits.
What is the difference between an SSR and a mechanical relay?
An SSR has no moving contacts, so it is silent, fast, and does not wear from switching. A mechanical relay gives a physical air gap and has lower heat loss at high current.
Does polarity matter?
Yes. Connect the input and output terminals with the correct polarity, as marked on the relay.
Do I need an electrician to install it?
Yes. Installation must be carried out by a qualified person in line with local regulations.
