Silent, Fast and Long-Life Switching for Single-Phase AC Loads up to 40A
The Potric JGX-40AA Solid State Relay (SSR) uses a semiconductor output instead of mechanical contacts. An AC control signal from a thermostat, timer, or controller switches a single-phase AC load of up to 40A, with no clicking, no contact arcing, and no contact wear.
Because it has no moving parts, it suits applications with frequent switching and installations where noise, vibration, or contact bounce is a problem.
Key Features
- AC control, AC load: an AC control input switches a single-phase AC output, with no need for a separate DC supply.
- Wide control range: accepts 80-280V AC, suited to mains-voltage control signals.
- No moving contacts: silent operation, no arcing, and long service life.
- Fast switching: suited to frequent on/off cycling and temperature control.
- Electrical isolation: the control side is isolated from the load side.
- 40A rating for medium heaters and single-phase loads.
- Panel mounting: fixes to a metal plate or heat sink.
Choosing the Right Rating
Choose a rating with a safety margin above the load current, typically at least 1.5 to 2 times for resistive loads such as heaters, and more for inductive loads such as motors. Always have the selection checked by a qualified electrician or engineer.
Typical Applications
- Temperature control and electric heating systems
- Thermostat and timer output switching
- Industrial ovens, dryers, and packaging machines
- Lighting and resistive load control
- Industrial automation and machinery
Installation Note
Solid state relays produce heat when carrying current. Mount the relay on a suitable heat sink with thermal paste, and leave space for air flow. Without enough cooling, the relay can overheat and fail.
Important Note
This relay switches AC loads only. Do not use it to switch a DC load. A solid state relay does not protect against short circuit or overload, so always install it with a suitable fuse or circuit breaker. It does not give a visible air gap, so use a separate isolating switch when work is carried out on the circuit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "AC/AC" mean?
The control signal you give the relay is AC, and the load it switches is also single-phase AC.
Can I control it with a 12V or 24V DC signal?
No. This model needs an AC control signal of 80-280V AC. For DC control, use a DC-control solid state relay.
Can I use it to switch a DC load?
No. The AC output cannot switch off a DC load.
Do I need a heat sink?
Yes, especially near the rated current. A heat sink keeps the relay within safe temperature limits.
What is the difference between an SSR and a mechanical relay?
An SSR has no moving contacts, so it is silent, fast, and does not wear from switching. A mechanical relay gives a physical air gap and has lower heat loss at high current.
Do I need an electrician to install it?
Yes. Installation must be carried out by a qualified person in line with local regulations.
