Silent, Fast and Long-Life Switching for Single-Phase AC Loads
The Potric JGX-DA Solid State Relay (SSR) uses a semiconductor output instead of mechanical contacts. A small DC signal from a controller, PLC, or temperature regulator switches a much larger single-phase AC load, with no clicking, no contact arcing, and no contact wear.
Because it has no moving parts, it suits applications with frequent switching and installations where noise, vibration, or contact bounce is a problem. It is available in five current ratings from 25A to 100A.
Key Features
- DC control, AC load: a low-voltage DC input switches a single-phase AC output.
- Wide control range: accepts a 3-32V DC control signal, compatible with most controllers and PLC outputs.
- No moving contacts: silent operation, no arcing, and long service life.
- Fast switching: suited to frequent on/off cycling and temperature control loops.
- Electrical isolation: the control side is isolated from the load side.
- Five ratings: 25A, 40A, 60A, 80A and 100A to match the load.
- Panel mounting: fixes to a metal plate or heat sink.
Choosing the Right Rating
- 25A and 40A: small and medium heaters, lighting, and small AC loads.
- 60A and 80A: larger heating elements and industrial heaters.
- 100A: heavy single-phase loads and high-current control panels.
Choose a rating with a safety margin above the load current, typically at least 1.5 to 2 times for resistive loads, and more for inductive loads such as motors. Always have the selection checked by a qualified electrician or engineer.
Typical Applications
- Temperature control and electric heating systems
- PLC and controller output switching
- Industrial ovens, dryers, and packaging machines
- Lighting and resistive load control
- Industrial automation and machinery
Installation Note
Solid state relays produce heat when carrying current. Mount the relay on a suitable heat sink with thermal paste, and leave space for air flow. Observe the polarity marked on the DC input terminals. Without enough cooling, the relay can overheat and fail.
Important Note
This relay switches AC loads only. Do not use it to switch a DC load. A solid state relay does not protect against short circuit or overload, so always install it with a suitable fuse or circuit breaker. It does not give a visible air gap, so use a separate isolating switch when work is carried out on the circuit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "DC control, AC load" mean?
The control signal you give the relay is DC, and the load it switches is single-phase AC.
Can I use it to switch a DC load?
No. The AC output cannot switch off a DC load. Use a DC-output solid state relay instead.
Do I need a heat sink?
Yes, especially near the rated current. A heat sink keeps the relay within safe temperature limits.
What is the difference between an SSR and a mechanical relay?
An SSR has no moving contacts, so it is silent, fast, and does not wear from switching. A mechanical relay gives a physical air gap and has lower heat loss at high current.
Do I need an electrician to install it?
Yes. Installation must be carried out by a qualified person in line with local regulations.
