Quiet, Reliable Switching for Water Heaters, Air Conditioners and Lighting Circuits
The Potric PCH8 Series Silent AC Contactor is a 2-pole modular contactor with two normally open (2NO) contacts. It lets a small control signal, such as a timer, thermostat, or building automation output, switch a much larger load safely. Its low-noise operation makes it a good fit for living spaces, bedrooms, hotels, and offices, where the buzzing of ordinary contactors is a nuisance.
Available in 40A and 63A ratings, it installs on a standard 35mm DIN rail in a distribution board and uses only two modules of space.
Key Features
- Silent operation: low-noise switching suited to residential and quiet commercial environments.
- 2 poles, 2NO: switches phase and neutral together, or two lines, with normally open contacts.
- Two ratings: 40A and 63A to match different load sizes.
- 230V AC coil: operates directly from standard single-phase control supply.
- Compact modular design: 2 modules wide (36mm), saving panel space.
- Easy installation: snaps onto a 35mm DIN rail with clear terminal markings.
- Suited to frequent switching: built for repeated daily operation in automated circuits.
Choosing the Right Rating
- 40A: suitable for water heaters, air conditioners, and medium-load lighting circuits, depending on cable size.
- 63A: suitable for heavier loads, group switching, or sub-distribution circuits, provided the cable and installation are rated for it.
Always match the contactor rating to the load and cable cross-section, as specified by a qualified electrician.
Typical Applications
- Water heater and boiler switching
- Air conditioning and heating control
- Lighting control in homes, offices, and hotels
- Timer, thermostat, and building automation circuits
- Group switching of household loads
Important Note
A contactor switches loads on and off. It does not protect against overload or short circuit. Always install it together with a suitable MCB or RCBO, and with a thermal or voltage protection device where the load requires it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a silent contactor?
It is a contactor designed to operate with much less coil hum and switching noise than a standard one, which makes it suitable for homes and quiet buildings.
What does 2NO mean?
It means two normally open contacts. The contacts are open when the coil is off, and they close when the coil is energised.
Can I use it to switch a motor?
This contactor is rated for household and light commercial loads (AC-7a). For motors, check the rating category and size the device with a qualified electrician.
Does it replace a circuit breaker?
No. It switches the load only. Use it together with an MCB or RCBO for overload and short-circuit protection.
Do I need an electrician to install it?
Yes. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in line with local regulations.
